Today, I want to share with you a few of my favorite things – some of my favorite essential oils. Young Living Essential Oils produces over 70 individual oils and over 60 oil blends. I haven’t tried them all (yet!), but these are some of my absolute favorites.
Cedarwood
Cedarwood is woodsy and warm, with a balsamic aroma. Its powerful aroma creates a relaxing, calming and comforting atmosphere when diffused (I love diffusing it at night). The aroma allows you to enjoy the outdoors annoyance-free. It may be added to your favorite skin care products and applied topically, or massaged into the scalp for the appearance of healthy-looking hair.
Cedarwood contains more sesquiterpenes (98%) than any other essential oil. Sesquiterpenes are compounds that deliver oxygen molecules to cells. They can also erase or deprogram miswritten code in cellular memory.
Cedarwood is a Biblical oil, being mentioned in the Bible five times as an oil and over 65 times as an aromatic lumber/living trees. Cedarwood may have been the first oil obtained by distillation. The Egyptians and the Sumerians were distilling cedarwood over 5,000 years ago, using it for medicinal and embalming purposes. King Solomon built his temple and palace out of cedars of Lebanon. This wisest of all men was constantly surrounded by the aromatic oils of cedarwood.
Thieves®
Thieves® essential oil blend was inspired by the legend of four 15th-century French thieves who formulated a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals they used while robbing the dead and dying. Young Living’s one-of-a-kind Thieves® blend, crafted in the spirit of that legendary combination, can be found in all of our Thieves® products. When taken internally, Thieves supports healthy immune function, and it includes Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil, which may help maintain a healthy respiratory system. When taken as a dietary supplement, Thieves® is an ideal complement to a daily wellness regimen. I like to add 1 drop to a cup of warm water as part of a wellness regimen or put a drop under my tongue.
Peppermint
1. Supports gastrointestinal system comfort.
2. Promotes healthy bowel function.
3. Enhances healthy gut function.
4. Maintains efficiency of the digestive tract.
5. Supports normal digestion.
6. May support performance during exercise.
7. Is a key ingredient in DiGize™.
Peppermint is fabulous in drinking water! Be sure to use very little (dip a toothpick into the oil, then add it to the water) because Young Living’s peppermint essential oil is so potent, one drop equals 28 cups of peppermint tea!
Frankincense
Frankincense is probably most familiar to people as one of the gifts presented to the Christ child by the Magi. It is considered, both in ancient and modern times, to be a holy anointing oil, used to enhance meditation and elevate spiritual consciousness. It is mentioned 81 times in the Bible.
I add frankincense to my daily beauty treatments, as it may help smooth the appearance of healthy-looking skin. It contains up to 90% monoterpenes, compounds which can reprogram miswritten information in the cellular memory (DNA). I also enjoy diffusing it with cedarwood.
Research has/is being conducted on frankincense for the treatment of many diseases.
I use these four favorite oils on an almost daily basis. Learn more in my new book, Be in Health: Bible-Based Health Restoration: Living in Harmony with God’s Ways Regarding Health. Available now.

I absolutely love essential oils. We don’t have the exact same blends, but Peppermint is one of my favorites. I take Peppermint Beadlets everyday. Love how they taste after they burst open. Mmm – So refreshing!! 🙂

Sounds delicious!

You’re welcome!
Meghan Monaghan says
I love my essential oils, especially peppermint. If I’m nauseated, I put several drops of peppermint oil on the back of my hand and lick. It works well, believe it or not! That’s interesting about the background of the “Thieves” oil, never knew that.
carundle says
I’ll have to try to that!

Big fan of essential oils, Carol, although I tend to go for the florals…rose particularly. I also love citrus oils (lemongrass and lemon) for freshening up my home space. Thieves is a great one that my acupuncture once gifted me and it was amazing to spray in the home to stave off winter colds and flu. Although I’ve long known that peppermint is great for digestion, it isn’t an oil that works well for me. Great choices you shared here and love the added info about when and how to use them!

You’re welcome, Beverly!

I have been using ‘natural’ remedies for years. I never liked the term ‘alternative medicine’. Since herbs and oils have been around for centuries, it seems like today’s modern medicine should be considered the alternative 🙂 Thanks for sharing this information.
carundle says
I wholeheartedly agree with you, Kristy.
Coach Natalie Palombi says
HA! Now I know why they named that one “Thieves”! Finally the answer!

Love how you shared a few of your fav oils and what they are known for, but even better yet, how you use them… oils are still new for many… I think many, like me, don’t quite understand all of the benefits and USES!
carundle says
There are s many uses for oils, I’ll share what I can.

A newcomer to essential oils. Seems to be very popular which led me to want to try one. Now I have to remember to use my lavender. Thanks for the extra information about the different oils.
carundle says
Hope you’re enjoying the lavender!

I’ve always loved Cedarwood, Carol.
Peppermint, too. But you reminded me about the help with digestion.
Love your posts with background answers! I’m a fan.

Glad to help, Sharon!

Umm…robbing the dead? Eww! I always wondered why it was called Thieves, and now that I do, I’m sorry I found out! 😉 Must be powerfully fragrant is all I can say!
carundle says
They used it to protect themselves from getting the disease. Apparently, it worked since they lived to tell the tale.
Katarina says
Thanks Carol, for a nice article, did not know much about these oils before.

Peppermint is definitely one of my favorites but I’m currently out of all my oils and some of the others you mentioned are sounding like must-buys! I LOVE learning more of the history behind them too! I think you could totally make this a series … I’d be your faithful geekette follower *grin*
